“The groundwork of all happiness is health” - Leigh Hunt
Although electronic and wireless devices are an indispensable part of our daily lives, there are increasing reports of EMF sensitivity. What exactly is EMF sensitivity, how serious is it, and what are the tell-tale signs that you should watch out for?
Today, we deep-dive into this crucial topic. With the proliferation of 5G and wireless devices, it’s become more crucial than ever to know how to detect EMF sensitivity.
What is EMF Sensitivity?
EMF (Electromagnetic field) radiation is emitted by electronic devices such as Bluetooth devices, microwaves, laptops, wifi routers, smartphones, and all other electronic appliances. As the use of electricity and wireless devices exploded in the last few decades, so did the reports of people facing unsavory health effects of EMF exposure.
A person with EMF sensitivity experiences negative side effects on their health due to EMF exposure. Symptoms of EMF sensitivity can impact both physical and mental well-being of the affected person.
While the technology industry and government claim that non-ionizing radiation (emitted by smartphones and wireless devices) is safe for human health, there is a growing body of research linking EMF exposure to a wide variety of health effects.
6 Common EMF Sensitivity Symptoms
Despite numerous cases of EMF sensitivity being reported globally, the medical field does not recognize it to be a legitimate medical condition. As a result, there is a lack of uniform criteria to diagnose the condition. However, researchers studying the condition have noted symptoms that are common among most cases of EMF sensitivity. Here are some of the most commonly reported symptoms of EMF sensitivity:
1 - Sleep Disorders
In 2001, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health conducted a detailed health survey of people who complained of negative health effects due to EMF exposure. Of the health issues mentioned, sleep disorders were the most common complaint (mentioned by 58% of respondents). Another study done in China in 2014 linked poor sleep quality to regular EMF exposure. Still other studies have shown that EMF exposure is linked to significant disruption in melatonin production - the hormone responsible for regulating our circadian rhythm (day-night cycle).

2 - Headaches
Headaches are one of the chief complaints documented by studies researching EMF sensitivity. Research done in 2016 on migraine patients revealed that the frequency and severity of migraines in the participants was significantly related to their daily use of smartphones and Wi-fi in a week. The use of fixed-line or wired phones did not appear to impact these variables.

3 - Skin Issues
People with EMF sensitivity often report skin problems like skin rashes as a physical manifestation of the condition. There have also been reports of skin tingling and burning sensations associated with EMF exposure.
A whopping 23 scientific studies have shown that EMF exposure impacts the way our body’s cells communicate with each other, potentially causing oxidative skin damage. So it’s no wonder that people with higher sensitivity to EMF radiation experience skin problems.
4 - Fatigue
Many studies have suggested tiredness and fatigue as one of the trademark symptoms of EMF sensitivity. A survey done in Switzerland among general practitioners to gauge their experience with patients reporting EMF-related health issues. Of the most frequently reported conditions, fatigue was one of the most common complaints (14% of responses).
5 - Restlessness & Difficulty Concentrating
Multiple research studies have revealed that people with EMF sensitivity report having difficulty concentrating, as well as feeling restless and nervous for prolonged periods. Once again, this points to the manner in which EMF radiation disrupts the cellular communication pathways in our bodies.
A study published in 2017 reported that long-term exposure to EMF radiation damages the protective myelin sheath in the nerves of mice, causing them to display hyperactive-like behaviors.
6 - Anxiety & Depression
EMF sensitivity is also known to manifest as issues that affect our mental health, such as anxiety and depression. By disrupting our cells’ voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCC), it hampers their ability to transmit signals and regulate the release of hormones like serotonin and dopamine.
It is well-known that both these hormones are nicknamed ‘happy hormones’ for their ability to regulate our emotions and mood. Any disruption in the production of serotonin and dopamine can lead to low mood, anxiety and depression.
Final Thoughts
As history has demonstrated time and time again, medical science is often late to accept the lived experiences and evidence shared by conscientious citizens. Despite EMF sensitivity not being recognized as a legitimate condition by conventional medicine, there is growing evidence that reveals it to be an urgent health issue that we must all pay heed to.
To decrease your chances of suffering from the health issues caused by EMF sensitivity, it is important to take the right precautions to reduce EMF exposure and stay balanced. The power to reclaim our health rests with us, and we must do what is needed to protect our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
